Passenger Endorsement Requirements Eligibility
The responsibility of driving passengers around is not taken lightly in any job position. From driving passengers in a taxi to being a chauffeur in a limousine, these jobs must be done correctly and as safely as possible. Therefore, people who drive passengers from one destination to another must meet specific kinds of requirements prior to getting started. One special requirement for driving passengers from one place to another is the CDL P (Passenger endorsement). So, for those of you who are interested in securing more information on this topic, here are a few things that you will need to know.
As referenced previously, people who drive passengers around must have the right kinds of licenses to do it. Meaning they will need their commercial driver’s license with a P – Passenger endorsement in order to perform these duties. A passenger endorsement will usually give the driver the authorization to operate a taxi, school bus, limousine, and other vehicles that fall under this particular umbrella. Before an individual can be eligible for this kind of endorsement, however, there are specific requirements that the person must meet. Some of the more commonly known include passing a physical exam that indicates the person is fit enough to operate this kind of vehicle and showing proof of identity (social security card, immigration card). Since each state has specific requirements, the criteria for a physical can vary. These drivers must also be at a certain age before they are allowed to drive. For instance, some states require that their drivers be at least 18 years of age to drive in their state. However, if they want to drive across state lines, the minimum age is 21.
There are three types of CDL classes that determine the type of vehicle you may drive and how much you may tow. A Class A CDL class allows you to operate a vehicle with a GCWR of 26,001 if the vehicle you tow weighs more than 10,000 and a Class B CDL allows you to operate a vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds or operate any vehicle towing another vehicle that weighs less than 10,000 GVWR. With a Class C CDL, you can operate a Class C vehicle that transports hazardous materials.
